A prominent facade with formable GRC
Flundran is 10.000 square meter property located in the inner harbour of Malmö with a waterfront view. Flundran houses the Swedish court of justice, court of appeal, and government offices. The building with its two corners and curved facade looks like a large flounder and the architectural expression is meant to reflect the contours of the surrounding terrain.
Facade cladding from BB fiberbeton
BB fiberbeton produced facade elements for this project and the elements are mounted with our own FA1000®-system, a unique mounting system developed by BB fiberbeton. The FA1000®-system is easy to install and with elements adapted to the individual facade using a concealed mounting solution, it gives the facade a calm and harmonious expression. Facade elements from BB fiberbeton utilises the formability of GRC to create complex shapes and curves with a surface tailored to the individual project.

The property is certified in accordance with BREEAM In-Use and is rated ‘Very Good’. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment environmental assessment method) is one of the world’s leading sustainability assessment methods.

With the formability of GRC you can achieve any geometry and with a surface designed for your specific project. GRC is a lightweight material and our cladding elements are typically only 12 mm. Thus, making it easier to work with and transport whilst also easing the load on buildings.
GRC is an excellent facade material if durability and sustainability is of great concern and importance. GRC is durable for more than 100 years without any technical maintenance and it does not dent, rot, corrode, nor burn (class A material). With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
