The renovation of “Ørkenfortet” blends its historic charm with modern elegance. Featuring 3500 bespoke GRC elements, the DGNB-certified project sets new standards for sustainable hotel transformations.

Renovated into the NH Collection Copenhagen, the iconic 1962 “Ørkenfortet” in Christianshavn is now one of the city’s few 5-star hotels. Architects from Arkitema and Henning Larsen reimagined the former office building with a more open, transparent design while adding a 7th floor for expanded space.

BB fiberbeton delivered 3,500 GRC elements, including columns, parapets, and facade blocks, totalling 4,400 m². The facade’s surface, inspired by the building’s original architecture, features 10 mm exposed aggregates for a dynamic, textured expression. The project is certified DGNB Gold, making it Denmark’s first hotel renovation to achieve this distinction.
