Ambitious architectural shapes
AARhus is an ambitious project with a unique and modern architectural expression. The architects’ vision is to embody the soul and architectural spirit of the city Aarhus. Shaped as two AA’s the building is perched on the manmade island Ø4 and has a view of the habour, the city, and the surrounding nature. The 20-story high residential building houses 250 apartments, all with an ocean view.
Formable & durable facades
The unique AA shape and the architects’ vision of creating a modern building different from others, made GRC an ideal material choice for this project. The formability and versatility of GRC awards architects an exceptional design freedom.
With the vision of creating a new landmark for the city of Aarhus it was important to choose materials that are durable and will appear neat for a long time. Glassfibre reinforced concrete is resistant to all weather conditions and can easily be cleaned so they appear new again.
BB fiberbeton delivered around 940 GRC elements for the facade. The facade elements are mounted with a combination of embedded stud-frames, embedded insets, and recessed holes with plugs. This mounting solution offers a simple and hidden installation, and the result requires no technical maintenance. The elements are coloured in BBf no.04 light grey.

Glassfibre reinforced concrete (GRC or GFRC) is incredibly versatile and grants you an architectural design freedom with almost endless possibilities. With the formability of GRC you can achieve any geometry and with a surface designed for your specific project. GRC is a lightweight material and our cladding elements are typically only 12 mm. Thus, making it easier to work with and transport whilst also easing the load on buildings.
GRC is an excellent facade material if durability and sustainability is of great concern and importance. GRC is durable for more than 100 years without any technical maintenance and it does not dent, rot, corrode, nor burn (class A material). With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
