Praised & remarkable architecture
Psykiatrins hus is a compelling building within the University Hospital in Uppsala. TENGBOM architects wanted to express an architectural flexibility and openness. It is a striking building that encourages a light and open environment. Uppsala Psykiatrins hus is named one of the world’s most architecturally impressive hospitals and was awarded ninth place when American Online Master of Public Health listed “The 30 most Achitecturally Impressive Hospitals in the world”. Furthermore, the building was nominated in the category Health in the World Architecture Festival Award.
Thin & lightweight facade elements
GRC is an ideal material for facade cladding with its long durability, low weight, and great formability. The elements for this project are only 12 mm thin, and the low weight of the elements reduce the load on the building.
BB fiberbeton delivered facade and ceiling elements for the exterior of the building The mounting solution was tailored to the project and consisted of embedded steel frames. Elements were coloured in BBf no.01 white.

GRC is durable for more than 100 years without any technical maintenance and it does not dent, rot, corrode, nor burn (class A material). With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
