Extensive renovation with respect for the original architecture
Søndermarken is a high-rise residential complex consisting of 434 apartments in five 14-story buildings. The five residential buildings have undergone a comprehensive renovation of the exterior facade, including further insulation and new cladding.
The original architecture of Søndermarken was typical of the time as an example of the 1950’s high rises. One of the requirements for the extensive facade renovation was for the new facade to emulate the original architectural look. This respect for the history of the buildings was consistent throughout the collaboration between architects JJW and BB fiberbeton and the result is a GRC facade that looks like the original architecture, both in shape and colour.
Thin & formable facade cladding
GRC was chosen for this renovation since the formability of the material made it possible to fulfill the wish for a certain look, coupled with the ability to produce lightweight thin-shell elements, making room for further insulation.
BB fiberbeton manufactured around 82.200 facade and balcony elements, corresponding to 19.550 m2 GRC. The mounting solution is a further development of our own FA1000®-system and is custom developed for this specific project. The solution allows for an easy and hidden installation.

With the formability of GRC you can achieve any geometry and with a surface designed for your specific project. GRC is a lightweight material and our cladding elements are typically only 12 mm. Thus, making it easier to work with and transport whilst also easing the load on buildings.
GRC is an excellent facade material if durability and sustainability is of great concern and importance. GRC is durable for more than 100 years without any technical maintenance and it does not dent, rot, corrode, nor burn (class A material). With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
