New balconies that harmonize with the existing building
When Altana A/S had to install new balconies at Nørre Farimagsgade 53 in Copenhagen, it was crucial for the project to focus on aesthetics to create a cohesion between the new balconies and the existing building. The choice therefore fell on our GRC solutions, where design freedom - with the possibility of significant influence on the final aesthetics - seamlessly combines with elements that are lightweight, thin, and moldable.
In total, we produced 6 elements for this small project: 3 balcony floors and 3 balcony ceilings.
The balcony ceilings were produced with a thickness of 12 mm, with approximately 200 mm fold along 3 sides and recessed holes equipped with plugs in the same material. The balcony floors were produced with a thickness of 27-41 mm, with a one-sided slope for drainage over the front edge and our standard slip-resistant pattern. Additionally, all balcony floors were executed with milled water channels on the underside along 3 sides and simple cutouts for balusters along 3 sides.

The balconies facing the street have a quite prominent placement, so it was important that they were aesthetically adapted to the building and produced to a high standard, and here BB fiberbeton was an obvious choice."

With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
