Respectful renovation of conservation worthy building
The old Overformynderiet on Holmens Kanal was originally built in the 1930’s and is recognised as a highly conservation worthy building. Today, the building is used as a dynamic and modern office building. The renovation project consisted of a total renovation of both the exterior and interior. The exterior renovation included the concrete and marble facade cladding. It was decided to preserve the original marble from Greenland and replace the concrete columns.
An ideal material for renovations
With its low weight, and great formability GRC is suitable for renovation projects, as it is possible to tailor the elements to the specific building and the 12 mm thin elements reduces the load on the building. BB fiberbeton manufactured over 1.000 facade elements, corresponding to around 1.200 m2 GRC. The facade elements are mounted with embedded steel brackets and is coloured in BBf no.04 lys grå.

EU Mies Award 2022 nomination
The renovation of Holmens Kanal, Overformynderiet has been nomiated for the pretigious EU Mies Award 2022. This award aims to recognise and promote the importance of quality and reflect the complexity of architecture’s significance in relation to conceptual, social, economic, cultural, and aesthetic achievements. The restoration of Overformynderiet is a prime example of respecting the historic value of a building while keeping the objective on usability and sustainability.

GRC is durable for more than 100 years without any technical maintenance and it does not dent, rot, corrode, nor burn (class A material). With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
