Historic Building Gets New Balconies
Back in the 19th century, this yellow building on Bådmandsstræde in Copenhagen was constructed with the purpose of housing widows of the state's naval officers. Today, the building contains beautiful, bright apartments. Apartments that, in 2021, needed, among other things, new balconies.
Altana A/S delivered 19 balconies and 2 stairwells for the project - all in steel, with balcony ceilings in GRC. We produced a total of just over 50m2 of balcony ceilings for the project's 19 balconies, with a thickness of 12 mm, with recessed holes and corresponding plugs in the same material. The elements were made with a one-sided slope of 4 mm.

Here, the balconies are in steel, but the client and advisor had specific requirements that the balcony ceilings should be made of GRC. GRC balcony ceilings from BB fiberbeton are a natural choice for us when there is a particular desire for the materiality and surface texture of steel balconies, as the concrete surface provides a beautiful and balanced expression in harmony with the balcony's other smooth metal surfaces."

With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
